Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
- Add yeast mixture, softened butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a ball and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with butter or your favorite jam.
Notes
- Ensure milk is warm but not hot to activate yeast properly.
- You can add cinnamon or raisins for a flavor variation.
